What does God expect from us in this life? I mean this question practically, not theoretically. I know He expects us to love God, and our neighbor, and to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. But I don't know a single person who claims to have achieved anything close to those goals. So what can we actually expect to achieve - in this life - in terms of our spiritual aspirations?

Micah 6:8 (Jerusalem Bible)

What is good has been explained to you, man;
this is what Yahweh asks of you:
only this, to act justly,
to love tenderly,
and to walk humbly with your God.

It really is that simple, as the prophet Micah's utterance. Our achievements in this or any other life are simply not of the listable, measurable kind. They are not defined by results, but by the inclination of the heart.

Another way of saying the same thing is that God requires of us that we become windows through whom He can shine into our world.

Let the light pass through.

Yeah, and I doubt that God expects us to be perfect. That's impossible. To be penitent and humble in the face of imperfection, and to strive for perfection, perhaps.

And I like the window thing, R. Very cool.
