Can this be the only work we can hope to do that is not dead? All our righteousness is as filthy rags, and as we say in the Liturgy of Saint Basil, we have done nothing good on the earth.
Can this be that well hidden secret teaching of Jesus that demolishes the false confidence of salvation through works? Only the obedient believe.
Can this be the work which God works in us, believing in us and for us in His only Son, to save us? I believe, Lord, help [me out of] my unbelief.
When I take Communion, I think of the phrase "this cup is the new covenant in my blood - do this in rememberance of me," and I ask God to put his law on my mind and write it on my heart (Jer 31:30-36).
