The Gospel about Sin and Death

We have escaped like a bird
out of the fowler's snare;
the snare has been broken,
and we have escaped.

(Psalm 124:7)

This verse captures what I believe the Gospel says about sin, death, and us. Not only have we escaped, but the “snare” is broken, so we can’t get back into it again.

Also, I love that the Gospel can be found in the Hebrew scriptures.

Yes, the Good News was always inherent in the Hebrew scriptures, though hidden until fulfilled by Christ.

As I was reading your brief but meaningful post, the icon of the Descent into Hades (commonly called the "Anastasis" or resurrection) came into my mind's eye. At the bottom of the icon is a human figure lying in shadows bound and chained, surrounded by broken chains, broken locks and broken gate leaves. The human figure represents Hades personified, and also "sin and death".

As you wrote, "Not only have we escaped, but the “snare” is broken, so we can’t get back into it again."

It brings to mind the fact that we were not the one's who broke the snare and yet we reap the rewards. Saved by grace throughout Scripture.
